Alternative Spring Break 2019

Alternative Break Program 

Alternative Break Program (ABP) exposes students to complex social and cultural issues through service, experiential learning, group discussion, and personal reflection. These are great educational opportunities for students to gain a deeper insight of social issues and become well-informed citizens. The Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF) Leadership Program along with the Reisher Scholarship will host its annual Alternative Break Program.

Alternative Break Trips

Due to a great amount of participation and successful trips in the past, the Alternative Break Program is growing and site coordinators want to give more DSF and Reisher scholars a chance to participate by adding more than one trip and out-of-state trips! Your support would give students a chance to focus on societal hardships, environment and community development issues. This year, the Alternative Break Program will make an impact on our community in the following locations: 

Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona (March 23-27)

Grand Canyon National Park works with environmental waste and its impact on the ecosystem specifically the California Condor. This trip students will learn about different aspects of the effect “Micro-trash on the environment. Student will spend time cleaning “micro-trash” from the areas near the bird nests, as well as any other tasks relating environmental concerns.  

Fort Collins Rescue Mission, Denver (March 25-29)

Fort Collins Rescue Mission provides emergency service designed to meet the needs of people experiencing homelessness such as meals shelter and hygiene and the most basic from of stability. This is a trip through which students will learn about different aspects of societal hardships. Student will cook and serve meals for the homeless, participate in their harvest farm program, maintenance and many other tasks.

Cheyenne River Youth Project, South Dakota (May 20-24/Summer)

Cheyenne River Youth Project is a youth and family service organization providing the youth access to a vibrant and secured future through a variety of programs and projects. This is a trip student will learn about different aspects of community development. Students will participate with student programs and cook, engage in activities and other tasks.
